"We must live as we think, otherwise we shall end up by thinking as we have lived." - Paul Bourget
About Paul Bourget
Early in his career, French writer Paul Bourget fit in well with the realistic school of fiction with psychologically astute novels about French society, but his work became moralistic after he converted to Catholicism. His novel The Disciple, about a man who tries to apply naturalistic views to life and fails miserably, marked the turning point in his style. He is now remembered primarily for his literary criticism, not his fiction. He was born in 1852 in Amiens and died in 1935.
